Upper Columbia Trout, Guided Fishing With Steven Bird

Fly Fishing the Upper Columbia since 1974

What we’re mostly about is: Fly fishing for native Upper Columbia River redband rainbow and west-slope cutthroat trout.  Nobody has fly fished the U.C. longer or has the local knowledge and location on the heart of the Columbia's American Reach that we have.

We welcome all gear choices, but our favorite, and specialty, is fly fishing big water for big trout. If there was ever a river custom designed for double-hand trout rods, the Upper Columbia is it.

One of the few things that might pull us away from the U.C. is a trip to the nearby Pend Oreille River for smallmouth bass and brown trout. Both the Upper Columbia and Pend Orielle afford the chance for world-class flyfishing in exquisite surroundings.

We fish these rivers drifting from our safe, comfortable 3-man pontoon and from the bank or a combination of both as conditions require, or as you like. Meals, flies and tippet included. We  carry spare rods that you are welcome to use at no charge.

Accommodations:

Accommodations are comfortable tent-camping or park your RV at our fish camp on the Upper Columbia. All meals and snacks provided. The camp is basic and fun with shower, privy, tents with cots or air mattresses, a  screen-room with day bed, picnic table and power. Great food. Unlimited serenity. We aim to provide a classic wilderness fishing experience in a natural setting (not the kind of place you come to count threads on the sheets). Or, if you prefer, we can arrange other lodgings nearby: RV hookup, cabins or bed and breakfast or superb winery bed and breakfast. We can arrange transportation to and from the airports in Colville or Spokane for fly-ins.

All trips and schools are limited to two persons. We can accommodate two additional non-fishing guests at a cost of $100 a day, per additional guest. Unlimited serenity, hiking or sightseeing (or do yoga with Doris if you’d like).  A ‘day’ includes the eve of your arrival, a full day of fishing, dark till too dark to see, if you like, and if you stay with us, supper and a night to rest before your departure.
